Athar is an off-road navigation and convoy app made by TSR Labs in the United Arab Emirates. This policy explains what Athar collects, why, who sees it, and how long it is kept. In short: your live position is shared only with the convoys you are in and is never stored; your track is stored only when you save a trip; and you can delete your account, and everything in it, from the app at any time.
What Athar collects, and why
- Your account. When you sign in with Apple or Google, they give us an identifier for you and an email address (Apple may give a private relay address instead). We use the email only to recognise you if you later sign in with the other one. We never send you marketing email.
- Your profile. The name, car description and colour you choose, which the other members of your convoys see, and your units and language.
- Your live position, while you are in a convoy. It goes to the other members of your convoys, with your battery level, so they can see where you are. It is held in our server's memory only while the convoy runs, and is never written to our database.
- Location in the background, only during an active trip or convoy, so your convoy keeps seeing you and your track keeps recording while the screen is off.
- Saved trips. Your track (positions, times, elevation and speed) is stored on our servers only when you save a trip. Members of the same convoy who also saved that trip can see your track in it.
- Hazards you mark: their type, severity, note, position and time, shared with your convoys. If you make one public, everyone using Athar sees its type, severity and position, but never your note or your name.
- SOS. When you send one, your position and note go to the convoys you are in. It is kept for 30 days.
- Notes to drivers. If you lead or sweep a convoy, you can write each driver a note after it ends. The points you type and the note written from them are kept; the driver sees the note, your name and your role. A driver can delete a note, report it, or block its writer. We keep reports, and our team reads a reported note to act on it.
- Purchases. Apple or Google take the payment, and RevenueCat, our subscription service, tells us whether you have Premium. We never see your card.
- Technical. Whether you use an iPhone or Android, which version of Athar, and when you were last active, to keep you signed in, run the service and keep it secure.
What other services receive
- Replit hosts our server and database.
- Mapbox provides the maps. Its software may collect anonymous usage data, which you can switch off from the map's ⓘ button.
- Apple Weather (WeatherKit) provides forecasts. We ask for the forecast of the square of about 11 km around a point, never your exact position.
- Apple and Google provide sign-in and the app stores; RevenueCat manages subscriptions.
- OpenAI writes what you ask Athar to write, and checks notes to drivers for abuse; Athar asks you before it first sends anything there. For a trip's summary it receives that trip's name, its date and times, its distance, time, climb and elevation, how many cars were in your convoy and your role in it, and the kinds of hazards and the number of SOS calls marked during it. For a note to a driver it receives the points the leader or sweep typed and the language to write in. Never a position, and never anyone's name. OpenAI does not use what it receives through its API to train its models.
- Meta and Google (Google Analytics for Firebase), to measure our advertising. When we switch this on, the app tells them that it was installed and opened, that an account was created, and that a trial or subscription started; RevenueCat may tell them when a subscription renews. On Android this uses your device's advertising ID, which you can reset or delete in your device's settings. On iPhone, Athar does not access the advertising identifier and does not track you across other companies' apps and websites. Nothing about your trips, convoys, hazards or location is shared with them.
- When you share a trip, Athar makes the message or picture on your phone and hands it to the app you choose, which receives it under its own terms. Athar's server is not told and keeps no copy. The picture's line leaves out where the trip set off and where it stopped, 500 metres around each; its map is Mapbox's, credited on the picture.
- We do not sell your data.
How long it is kept
- Your account, profile, saved trips and hazards: until you delete them, or your account.
- Live positions: only in memory, while the convoy runs.
- Notes to drivers, and reports of them: until the writer or the driver deletes their account. A driver can delete a note at any time.
- SOS: 30 days.
- Sign-in sessions: 180 days at most, deleted 30 days after they end.
- Public hazards: their creator is asked every 3 months whether they are still there, and those not confirmed come off the map.
Deleting your account
In the app's settings, choose Delete Account. This deletes your account, profile, saved trips, hazards, SOS and convoy memberships, and takes your track out of other members' saved trips. If you were one of the first 100 Premium members, your founder number stays retired, linked to nobody. A subscription bought in the App Store or Google Play has to be cancelled there, and the app shows you how. If you sign in with Apple, we also ask Apple to revoke Athar's access.
Your rights
You can see, correct and delete your information in the app at any time, or write to us at support@atharnavs.com and we will help within 30 days.
Children
Athar is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we update this page and its date, and tell you in the app when the change matters.
